Erica is the Sir John Elliott Fellow in Early Modern Spanish Cultures. In broad terms her research takes up questions related to conversion, religious minorities, translation, language, and constructions of race from Spain to the Americas, to Southeast Asia in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. She is currently developing a monograph that shows how early modern writers across the Spanish empire incorporated ideas about different languages and linguistic difference as they contested or contributed to the development of emergent racial concepts. She is also interested in the political work that projects to study, translate, and teach Arabic sought to perform in early modern Spain and the Mediterranean.

Imogen Choi is Associate Professor of Spanish in the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages, University of Oxford, and Queen Sofía fellow at Exeter College, Oxford. Her research looks at sixteenth and seventeenth century literature in Spanish, working across Europe and the Americas and with a particular interest in establishing a dialogue between the narrative poetry of the period, sacred history and intellectual history. In 2023-24 she is based in Madrid as a Leverhulme International Fellow and visiting professor at Universidad Eclesiástica San Dámaso and Universidad Complutense with the project 'Sacred epic and diasporic communities in the early modern Hispanic world’.

Claude B. Stuczynski is an Associate Professor at the Department of General History (Bar-Ilan University) and was a board member of the Center for the Study of Conversions and Interreligious Encounters (CSOC) at Ben-Gurion University. Having written a number of Contributions in various languages, his two main fields of research are the Converso phenomenon and the first encounters between Europeans and Amerindians, including early modern racism and anti-Converso antisemitism. He is mainly interested in the relationship between religion and politics in the Medieval and Early Modern periods. He is currently preparing a study of the theological-political dimension of the Converso phenomenon (what he calls: “The Marrano Pauline Moment”).
